21′ Sport

On a strict boating budget but need weather protection and an enclosed head? Seaway’s 21 Sport might be your solution. She has the classic, functional beauty of a Downeast working boat, combined with a roomy cuddy cabin and a folding Navy top. In a standard package, she comes with a V-berth forward, room for a portable toilet, and a Bimini top over her helm and companion seats. Those, by the way, mount on storage boxes that include cushioned aft-facing seats below. The cockpit is large enough for anglers to troll or work jigs, or for several folding chairs to accommodate friends on a sunset cruise. A strong, smooth 90-hp four-stroke outboard mounts on a transom cutout. It’ll give the 21 Sport cruising speeds in the high ‘teens and twenties, with a top about thirty. With that power, she’ll go a couple of hundred miles on her 50-gallon fuel tank. Meanwhile, her self-bailing cockpit will allow her to hang on a mooring and shed any rain that comes along.

The 21 Sport’s hard-chine hull allows her to “sail easy,” as watermen like to say, so her fuel efficiency appeals to anyone with a Yankee sense of thrift. Meanwhile, her proud, buoyant bow and sharp hull entry cleave seas. Her spray rails damp down those cloven seas, but her “bass boat” windshield will deflect truly gnarly stuff. She’s rigged simply, but she’s able and useful.
